Tramola 26.3 released

Tramola 26.3 is out! This release adds a whole set of new public transport analyses and lets you save and restore complete Visualizer sessions. New layers for trips, isochrones and any time-based point data (XYT) allow for unprecedented insights into your models. A new run dashboard, and value labels in the visualizer round it off.

New layers: trips, isochrones and more

The Visualizer gained several new layers:

  • Trips visualizes your run’s trips as lines, arcs, origin and destination points, a density heatmap, or flows between grid cells — filterable by time, mode and activity. Click a flow to see its modes, departure times and activities.
  • Isochrones show how far you get within a given travel time, on the road network or by public transport.
  • XYT displays any data with coordinates and timestamps — for example GPS traces or output from your own MATSim extensions — as animated dots, arrows, trails or 3D models.

The vehicles layer got a boost as well: animations are smoother, vehicles drive on their side of the road, and clicking a vehicle shows the agent’s whole day as a timeline. In 3D, the camera can even follow an agent along its way.

Public transport analyses

Building on the transit stop analyses of 26.2, Tramola 26.3 adds a whole toolbox for public transport:

  • Passenger volumes show how many passengers travel on each section of the network, filterable by line and route, and comparable between runs
  • Line analysis shows boardings and alightings along a line’s stops, a stop-to-stop matrix, and highlights the line on the map
  • Transfer analysis now lets you drill down from stop areas to individual lines, and shows transfers between modes as a Sankey diagram
  • New visualization options for boardings and alightings on the map

Intersection flows

Pick any intersection on the map and see its flows at a glance: how many vehicles go from which approach to which exit, filterable by time of day and mode.

Zone-based aggregation analysis

In the last release we promised more analyses for your own geodata — here they are. Trips can now be aggregated onto square grids, H3 hexagons, or your own zones such as districts or traffic analysis zones.

  • See where trips start and end, normalized or as absolute numbers
  • Show the mode share of a selected mode per zone or cell
  • Display the full modal split as small pie charts directly on the map
  • Hide cells with too few trips, so random noise does not distract from the real patterns

Visualizer sessions

Setting up the Visualizer for a presentation or a detailed analysis can take a while. Now you can save everything — runs, layers and their settings, map view, basemap and time — as a named session, and return to exactly the same view later. Sessions are shared within your team, so colleagues can pick up right where you left off.

Run dashboard

Every run now opens with a summary page showing the key figures of your simulation: mode statistics, mode share by distance and more. The familiar charts of the simulation progress are still available in their own view.

Stay up to date

Tramola now tells administrators when a new version is available, together with the release notes. The check fetches a signed file from our server once a day — no information about your installation is sent, and nothing is ever installed automatically. If you prefer, the check can be turned off in the configuration.

Even more improvements

Tramola 26.3 also includes:

  • Tramola notices when a run’s analysis data was created by an older version, and lets you re-process single runs or many at once
  • Link speeds and volumes can be shown relative or absolute, plus a new travel time index
  • Link labels that avoid overlapping, even across several layers
  • Flow bundles based on multiple links, and for passengers, not only vehicles
  • Keyboard shortcuts for the time control
  • Reorder layers in the Visualizer
  • A greatly expanded user manual, with a tour, glossary and search
  • and more smaller improvements to make your work-life easier
